Oil - 11 x 14"
This painting is a study of contrast of orange and blue. The painting was done very spontaneously, alla prima, meaning "all at once". I used a cool light bulb (cooler than an incandescent board, but not as cool as north light) and a shadow box to create a dramatic light effect. The center of focus is the blue vase and the orange and lemon to the right. The other orange fruit and eggs in blue ceramic bowl are less prominent, having less contrast and softer color as well as the drapery.
