Morning in Cold Spring Harbor Park (click here to bid on this painting)

Morning in Cold Spring Harbor Park
Oil - 12 x 16"
This was painted weekend before last (September, 2007). It was painted in the park at Cold Spring Harbor, NY on Long Island. I began at about 8 am as I worked quickly to capture the light effect as I knew it wouldn't last long. I was well pleased with the result. The foreground is completely in shadow, the near tree however, as it is taller, begins to catch the morning light, while the rest of the scene is in full light, including the distant hills, the sandy beach beyond, and the docked white boats. The distant hill shows the light source to be to the left in the painting as that side is more well lit and slowly fades toward the right. Intense yellow-greens can be seen as well, despite the fact that this hillside is some distance away.
