Sunset from Monteverdi (click here to bid on this painting)

Sunset from Monteverdi
Oil - 11 x 14"
This was painted last Saturday (October 4th, 2008). It is a sunset painting of a Hudson River view looking toward Peekskill. The sun was quickly sinking to the right and the sky colors of sunset grew more intense. The mountainside to the right is completely in shadow opposite to the angle of the sun, the foreground trees and foliage are shown just after the light has gone behind the mountain and some light still remains. In the distance (toward Peekskill) smoke can be seen. I would like to think it is smoke from a fireplace of a log cabin but know instead that it is Indian Point (nuclear plant). Also I purposely leave out the buildings to give the painting a more romantic, timeless, classic look The scene was painted from Monteverdi restaurant at Oldstone Manor on the Hudson River, between Garrison, NY and Peekskill, NY.
