Painted last summer, August 2008, on the North Salem Open Land Foundation near Brewster, NY in upstate New York. It is looking at a grove of trees over the hill and the last rays of sun shine with a soft red glow behind the trees, bidding farewell to the day. In the small study or esquisse I strove to capture this final red glow, peaking behind the trees. I may take this theme to do a larger painting sometime in the future.
