This was painted on my first trip to Mt. Desert Island in 2002 which I've been back to on several occasions since. I can count the number of paintings left from that first trip on one hand, this is one of the last. I was focusing on the rocks in the area around Schooner Head. I was thrilled to be in the footsteps of Frederic Church where he was studying the movement of the ocean and the rocks around Mt. Desert, in the very same area. This area, is now part of Acadia National Park in Maine.
