The trees in this painting were very expressive to me, they seem human to me, or rather I should say, they seem like cognizcant creatures (which indeed they are) and they seem to be stretching their limbs, reaching out, reaching toward the sun, as if in joyous celebration. I'm pleased with the painting in that I've got stronger color in the foreground with the sun hitting the ground (and part of the foreground is in shadow cast by a nearby tree) in contrast to the grey-green and violet colors of the trees which mass together to make the background. I gave the painting the title, "Sing for Joy" for this reason and because they remind me of the following passages of scripture:
Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the LORD, because he comes to judge the earth.
1 Chronicles 16:33
Sing, O you heavens; for the LORD has done it: shout, you lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, you mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD has redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.
Isaiah 44:23
