Oil - 9 x 12"
This was painted this past summer in Stowe, Vermont (2008). The scene was painted in the earliest hours of dawn and there was a heavy fog, which eventually the scene emerged out of. For painting it is a great experience to see the forms slowly reveal themselves and to see closely related values and colors harmoniously unified.
It was painted in the vicinity of Mayo Farm Road. The red barn, or more accurately, red-violet-grey barn, is a building built not long ago in bucolic fashion to fit appropriately into the Vermont scenery. Because of the architectural design, and the mist (and my own romantic inclination) I easily imagined it to be another classic Vermont barn and I could have been painting a hundred years ago.
