This was painted just last month (June 2009) on "Robinson Hill Road" on a late morning, clear day looking in a northern direction with the sun to the right , overhead - the shadow shape of the mountain behind the tree to the left tells the direction of the light. It was painted in Pawlet, Vermont. A beautiful rural area in southern Vermont. Artists are known to have settled in the area including Ogden Pleissner who did in fact live in the village of Pawlet and Luigi Lucioni who lived nearby in Manchester, Vermont. It was a group of artists in this picturesque area, nearby in Dorset, who joined together and established the Southern Vermont Art Center, a museum and gallery which has included Norman Rockwell among others in its membership. Presently, my former instructor, Frank Mason, who recently passed away, is having an exhibition there until July 14.
